In early 2016, after researching several charities in our areas of operations across South Sudan and in the great lakes, our corporate social responsibility team selected Orphanage Straight Link School because we were impressed with its unique mission of giving a home to children whose parents perished as a result of the conflict that started in 2013 and with its distinguished reputation of providing quality education in Juba, South Sudan. Orphans can have a difficult time finding a home, guardian, or way of providing for themselves once their parents die and they can be drawn to a life of crime to be able to survive. Orphanage Straight Link School takes in these disadvantaged children and provide for them a home, food, education and parental guidance until they complete their secondary school. The orphanage currently cares for about 1000 children from ages 3 to 18.
On February 23 2019, a group of employees from PG3 Logistics South Sudan and Uganda made a return visit to Straight Link orphanage in Suk Zande in Juba to celebrate with the children the recent peace celebration declared by the government as a way of supporting the peace process, and donate food items. This time, our visit was for he occasion of the Revitalized-Agreement for Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS) celebration, which the government of South Sudan declared as a way of contributing to the implementation of the peace agreement. The occasion also offered us time off work, and to spend some time with children at the orphanage that the company supported from inception in 2016.
